Google's New Policy
Google's New Policy
A policy called Limited Ad Serving has been created. This policy will both reduce the risk of fraud and help prevent confusing and misleading ads. In line with this policy, an advertiser recognition period will be implemented for advertisers we are less familiar with. During this period, impressions for these advertisers' ads may be limited. Initially, this policy will apply to advertisers targeting specific brands with their ad campaigns. For example, this policy will be applied in cases where the relationship between an advertiser and the brand referenced in their ad is unclear. The goal is to ensure that users clearly understand who they are dealing with, especially when interacting with such ads.
New Policy to Guide Advertisers and Help Them Gain User Trust
This policy will ensure that new and well-intentioned advertisers earn user trust before gaining full access with their campaigns. The policy will also serve as an additional tool to help restrict access by malicious users. Advertisers significantly affected by this policy will be informed and provided with guidelines to help them become compliant advertisers. As with any new approach, we will start with a small group and gradually expand the scope of implementation.
Advertisers will also be provided with simple tips they can apply in their campaigns to create clear ads. For example, advertisers representing brands that are not widely recognized on the internet may be advised to anchor their domain names in the ad headline.
Suppose a user wants to make a reservation for their next trip and searches for flights to San Francisco with their favorite airline. Under the new approach, this user will mostly see ads from advertisers such as the relevant airline, competing airlines, and hotels in the area, as well as other advertisers with a good track record of compliance and transparency. Advertisers without such a good conduct record may face restrictions on their ad placements under this policy until they establish a successful track record on our platform. While aiming to provide users with the opportunity to engage with relevant and useful ads, this new policy will also reduce the likelihood of users seeing misleading or confusing ads from advertisers without a proven track record of success.
