We Attended Google I/O 2024
As LEVELUP, we recently had the opportunity to see Google's exciting new technologies, which will be available in the near future, live at the Google Turkey Office during the Google I/O 24 event. We are sharing the highlights of Google I/O 2024 with you.
- An AI-powered search system is coming to Google Photos. Called “Ask Photos,” this system can find photos based on questions asked or create albums according to your preferences.
- Gemini 1.5 Pro is now available globally to all developers and is also launching on Workspace Labs.
- The new Gemini 1.5 Flash large language model was introduced. Said to be faster and more efficient, this model has less coverage/capacity than 1.5 Pro.
- Project Astra has been announced. Astra, a generative AI-based digital assistant, sees the surroundings through the phone camera, recognizes almost everything, and can explain what they are. The system, which can answer questions very fluently, even recognizes markers drawn on the phone screen or a board and can respond accordingly.
- The Imagen 3 visual AI model was announced. The system, which generates images from text, can produce highly realistic results after processing.
- New AI tools are being offered to musicians through Music AI Sandbox, allowing them to create new songs/music and convert existing music into different styles in seconds. Artists can create music simply by writing, i.e., specifying their requests in writing.
- OpenAI Sora's competitor “Veo” has been announced. The system, which produces 1080P outputs, can create videos from written text, just like Sora. The system, which can produce videos longer than 1 minute, produces realistic results according to examples shown by Google.
- The popular email service Gmail can summarize emails with the help of Gemini. Questions can be asked to the AI based on these summaries, automatically generated answers can be obtained, and significant time can be saved. Gemini can also help users organize their Gmail, for example, by organizing incoming invoices or compiling numerical data to provide visual answers to questions like “Where was the biggest expense in this project?” by preparing tables.
- A virtual work colleague centered around Gemini has been announced. This AI-based work colleague is designed to assist with joint projects and can quickly answer questions. The system, which provides access to all data and conversations within shared groups and can summarize what it collects, can, for example, automatically arrange a meal at a time when everyone is free.
- Thanks to the mobile-focused Gemini Live, natural voice communication will be possible with the Gemini language model. A “Gems” infrastructure will also be offered here, where custom voice assistants can be created on demand.
- Gemini will also assist individuals with travel planning. This infrastructure will be part of Gemini Advanced (Paid) and will be able to plan trips across multiple categories (hotels, transportation, etc.).
It was announced that the term “AI (Artificial Intelligence)” was mentioned 120 times during the event, which concluded after a two-hour presentation.
